UNIPG - University of Perugia

The University of Perugia, located in Italy, is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in the country. It offers a wide range of programs in various fields, including humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, engineering and medicine. The University engages in a wide range of research activities and collaborates with other national and international institutions to advance knowledge and address global challenges. The Department of Agricultural, Food and Environmental Sciences (DSA3) research activities span from basic to applied studies on genetics and breeding, botany, phytopathology, physiology, agronomy and product quality evaluation.

Role in the project

  • Analyse the in situ geographic distribution of known populations of all the CWR species belonging to the genera targeted by the project, using distribution data from online international biodiversity databases as well as collated from the involved partners.
  • Identify gaps in the diversity stored in genebanks by comparing the estimated diversity of populations conserved in-situ and ex-situ.
  • Collaborate on the morpho-phenological characterisation of different populations of Triticum boeoticum and Beta vulgaris subsp. maritima for the identification of signatures of selection during population evolution and traits related to tolerance to biotic and abiotic stresses.
  • Collaborate on the characterisation of parental lines and derived populations for the identification of resistance traits for Fusarium Head Blight (FHB) and septoria leaf blotch.
