SV - SESVanderHave
SESVanderHave (SV) is a Belgian company specialized in sugar beet seed. SV focuses on the breeding, production and distribution of sugar beet seed. The company's work includes the development of varieties that are resistant to diseases, pests and environmental stresses, with the aim of improving sugar beet yields under different conditions. SESVanderHave also invests in research and collaborates with universities and research institutes to advance its breeding techniques and genetic improvements, contributing to the global sugar industry by providing growers with reliable seed options.
Role in the project
SESVanderHave will be responsible for the introgression of wild accessions identified by other partners, into an elite background. Approximately 10% of screened wild beet genotypes will be crossed to a commercial elite sugar beet breeding line to obtain an F1 hybrid. Further backcrossing and inbreeding will be done to deliver testcrosses for evaluation of tolerance/resistance to SBR / BCTV and drought as well as yield evaluation in a hybrid context.
