Workpackage 2: Ex-situ conservation of crop wild relatives for enhanced utilisation in pre-breeding
Workpackage 2 focuses on the following objectives and tasks that strengthen the ex-situ conservation of crop wild relatives.
Objectives
- To survey the breadth of the ex-situ conserved crop wild relative diversity in the three targeted Pro-Wild gene pools and its readiness for pre-breeding
- To maximise the captured bio-geographic and genomic diversity by strategically triaging the three argeted Pro-Wild gene pools into Pan-European core-collections containing between 200 to 500 accessions each
- To enable the development of crop wild relative-derived germplasm, amenable for reproducible genomic led pre-breeding, by lowering the intrinsic accession diversity of the triaged core-collections in form of single plant progeny sub-accessions
- To characterise crop wild relatives ‘omics’ by sequence-based genotyping and biotic and abiotic stress responses phenotyping for association genetics and assembly of micro-core collections pre-breeding panels
Tasks
- Crop wild relative diversity survey
- Pro-Wild crop wild relatives Pan-European gene-pool collection assembly and ex-situ conservation
- Pro-Wild germplasm development
- Pro-Wild ex-situ genomics and phenomics novel resources
