Workpackage 3: Exploiting crop wild relatives to increase crops diversity

Workpackage 3 focuses on exploiting crop wild relatives focusing on the following key objectives and tasks driving this effort.

Objectives

  • To develop, multiply and genotype new genetic resources for pre-breeding and breeding wheat, oilseed rape and sugar beet varieties
  • To integrate phenotypic and molecular data to identify new genes and allelic variants for relevant agronomic traits (resistance/tolerance to abiotic and biotic stresses and nutritional value) to improve cultivated varieties
  • To characterize crop wild relative introgressions into wheat cultivated materials
  • To facilitate the participative development of new varieties with a multi-actor approach

Tasks

  • Development, multiplication and genotyping of crop wild relative-derived genetic resources
  • Identification of genetic resources for abiotic resistance and nutritional value in wheat
  • Identification of genetic resources for biotic resistance
  • Evaluation of crop wild relative introgressions in cultivated wheat lines
  • Interactive stakeholder engagement: a dynamic learning agenda
